The house is almost gone

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Well this is bittersweet for me. We have been waiting for our house to sell for a long time now and while I can’t wait to give up that extra house payment, I will really miss our house. We’ve moved around so many times and this was the first place that I have really called home. I know it was more than the house; it was the friends I made and the area itself. But I loved this house and it was perfect for our family. I am kind of sad that chapter in my life is coming to a close completely.

The house is set to close on March 2. They received the Powers of Attorney finally so everything should be in order. I’ll update you on what happens.

Well, we got an offer

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

That’s right, we got an offer on the house. Thank God. We have had an offer before but everything fell through. The house has been on the market for about 9 months now so it is about time that something happened. We are pretty tired of paying two house payments!

If everything goes well, we will close on March 2nd. Yay.

Leaving Savannah

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

Leaving Savannah and our friends was pretty tough on us. We made some great friends there and Savannah truly becase our home. We will all miss it terribly and hope to someday get back! Here is the status of where we left things: we are still trying to sell the house but the truck is sold. A couple of our friends are keeping an eye on our house for us and helping us out a great deal in that way. Many thanks to the Bass and Smith families for that. It will be such a relief when we do sell the house!

I really tried to make the most out of being there; especially my last few days there. I spent time with friends as well as spent time with the city in general. I did a lot of the things I wanted to do before I left. The only thing I didn’t get to do that I would have loved is to have gone down to a couple of the old cemetaries and taken some pictures. Guess it just gives me another reason to come back.

We Are Here

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

Just wanted to let everyone know that Abe and I have arrived safely. Friday was a very long day and we are both catching up on sleep. I was unable to sleep on the plane and Abe slept for about 3 hours. I will write more details later, but for now I just wanted everyone to know.

The dogs have arrived

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

The dogs made it to Belgium yesterday and after a 6 hour wait, Drew was finally able to take them home. The plane was late for starters and then they had to go through customs and the authorities demanded that they be examined by a belgian vet. What a process. But they are there now and in their new house which is great.

In other news, with a little help from my friend Joe, I sold my truck. I will hold onto it until Monday so I an arrange a rental car and finish off some stuff, but otherwise, it is sold. We sold it to a nice couple here in town who banks at the same bank as us so it was very easy to just transfer the funds etc!

So that is one less thing for me to worry about. Now if only I could sell my house!

Bye bye doggies

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Tomorrow I will drive the dogs down to Jacksonville to have them board the plane. Their flight leaves at 12:35 pm and I have to have them there at 10:35am. They will get into Belgium at 8:30 am local time. I will certainly miss them, but it will be nice to not have to go and check them late at night and then first thing in the morning. I’m getting worn out!

Just another step; almost there.

Update from the US

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

Well, Abe and I are surviving over here on this side of the pound. I can’t wait until it’s all over. We haven’t had any luck with the house or the truck unfortunately.

We have been pretty busy. We are staying at the hotel on post and we drive to the house several times a day to let the dogs out and play with them. It looks like I will be shipping them on Friday hopefully. will find that out for sure tomorrow. This is quite the ordeal. So much to do and so little time.

I’ve been pretty swamped with work and have lots to finish up for this week. My contract with the Army officially ends on Monday. Then we will try to hang out with our friends and get on board the plane on Friday the 18th.

So, if you don’t hear much from us, just call. I’ve got my cell phone until Thursday. I need to cancel that.

They did it

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

Well, we’ve got ourselves a new house. It’s ready to move into and Drew is first on the list. So tomorrow he will go into the office and start the process.

I showed a few pics of this house in a previous post so some of these are repeats. But hopefully it will give you a general idea. It looks like it will suit us just fine.

The first pics are of the outside:

Then we’ve got pictures of the kitchen. It has a built-in bench but we can take it off if we want.

Boxes, boxes, and more boxes

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Well, the movers came today and have packed my stuff. I have boxes everywhere. Grace (the 7-month old australian shepherd) is a little weirded out by it all and is lying at my feet. It’s nothing new for Gabe and Yuri. So here I sit and I am surrounded by boxes. I’ve got my pile of wires that is posing as my network right now and I am camping out at the dining toom table.

Abe and I will be staying at the Lodging on Base. I went and checked in already and am going to get abe in a few minutes. The people were nice enough, the rooms are fine and most importantly clean. They leave a lot to be desired for appearance-wise. But hey.. It’s only $40/night versus 70-100 and its two bedroom with a kitchen and bath. I’ll take it!

I will update later about the house and the lack of progress. it really is depressing!
